The difference between brightness and wattage

Jun 23, 2022

When buying LED lamps, ordinary consumers need brightness, not wattage. In the past, it was customary to use wattage as the judging standard. In fact, the unit of brightness is lumens (lm). Traditional lamps and lanterns have always been measured in watts due to the single technology and material. However, in the era of LED lighting, due to the different technical strengths of various manufacturers, the wattage as a unit will lead to confusion and cannot be distinguished. For example, for a 1,000-lumen LED fixture, 10 watts from a skilled manufacturer can be achieved. Manufacturers with general technology need 13 watts to do it. Therefore, consumers need to know how many lumens of brightness they need when purchasing LED lamps. The same brightness, the higher the wattage, the more electricity will be consumed.
